The Cult of "Responsibility"

New President Barack Obama has called for a "new era of responsibility." Some folks are soooo ready to get behind this. Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher, for instance, have released a internet video pledging to the "be the change" they want in an Obama administration. They're joined by a bunch of other celebs (Cameron Diaz, Sean "Diddy" Combs, Joel Schumacher, Eva Longoria, Jason Bateman and others) all declaring what they're ready to do to make this a better planet. Not bad stuff individually, but a little scary when taken in one dose, almost a parody of cultish liberalism. The last 30 seconds are the best.

How about you? Are you ready to pledge to be a servant of Barack Obama?

  1. I will never pledge to serve anyone but my God, my wife and my family. This kind of cultish devotion to a man you've likely never met is sickening. We should certainly all do our part to make our country a better place. But pledge our service to our leader? Disturbing.

  2. Yeah, kinda funny how a black man (African-American, whatever) has got self-loathing white liberals all ready to be slaves to the masses.

America is not about communism, or socialism, or any other -ism that eliminates the most important -ism of all: Individualism. Sure, we can work together to make this a better country, but I've no desire whatsoever to sacrifice my happiness so that others can be happy.

  3. I'd love to see the CHANGE that comes from Hollywood. Will P Diddy stop producing babies right and left and settle down for one woman? Will Lindsay Lohan stay sober for longer than one day? Will Ludacris stop trashing women and turning them into sexual objects? Somehow, I doubt it.

  4. I agree. Promises from Hollywood don't mean anything.

However, if it wasn't for the specific pledging to be a servant to Barack, it wasn't a bad thought.

  5. I am actually happy that Obama and the Hollywood are talking about responsibility - wow personal responsibility what a concept, who would have thought of that? Well - Bill Cosby and every other conservative who preached this "radical concept" can now feel vindicated - i know i do.

  6. I am so sick of celebrities latching on to Obama as if he is their new svengali. The man is president of the united states. His inguration speech was a call back to self sacrifice and common sense. I don't need the poster children of the opposing philosphy to tell me anything.

  7. you people must be white. I`m white and think that you guys need to get a life. People in hollywood are just happy that someone (President Obama)is trying to help change things for the better. unlike us, white man who created this mess. No one is serving anyone but, is trying to help everyone.
